My Approach to Therapy
My work is informed by a psychodynamic understanding of how emotional difficulties develop and are maintained over time. I am particularly interested in unconscious processes - the thoughts, feelings, and relational patterns that sit outside of immediate awareness yet shape how we experience ourselves and others.
This often involves thinking about how earlier relational experiences can continue to influence current ways of relating, particularly where people notice themselves repeating patterns that feel confusing, overwhelming, or difficult to change.
Alongside my psychodynamic work, I am a BPC-registered Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) practitioner. I draw on MBT throughout my work to support individuals’ capacity to reflect on thoughts and feelings - both one’s own and those of others - especially in moments where emotions feel intense or relationships feel difficult to navigate.
A central part of my approach is attention to the therapeutic relationship itself. Rather than being separate from the work, the relationship can become a space where familiar patterns emerge, allowing them to be understood and worked through within the therapy.
